Speech-Language Pathology in Ireland

Spring 2018

This course will focus on international IPE giving students the opportunity to collaborate with students at Limerick University while participating in a clinical grand rounds challenge. Each team will be comprised of 2 Jacksonville University students and 2 University of Limerick speech-language pathology students.

Faculty Instructor
Dr. Robin Edge is an Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Dr. Edge received a BS and PhD from The University of Georgia and a MEd from Valdosta State University all in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She was nominated for “2014 Best University Professor” at The University of Mississippi where she worked prior to joining JU.  She also owned and operated a rehabilitation clinic for 12 years. Dr. Edge currently supervises JU graduate students working with preschoolers at Jacksonville Speech and Hearing Center.

 

Faculty Instructor
Dr. Wingate received a BA in music therapy from Charleston Southern University, an MS in speech-language pathology from the University of South Florida, and a PhD in voice and voice disorders from the University of Florida. She worked as a voice specialist for the University of Florida, Department of Communicative Disorders at the Health Science center from 1996 to 2001 and 2004 to 2013.  Her research interests include occupational voice problems, singing voice, and clinical outcomes in voice therapy. She is the author of Healthy Singing, a vocal health book for singers and their teachers.

Friday, March 9 – Arrival into Dublin
Morning: Arrive into Dublin and transfer to accommodations
Afternoon: Welcome lunch and afterward a city walking tour of Dublin
Meals: Lunch
Transportation: Airport to accommodations (one group transfer via private coach); accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

Saturday, March 10 – Dublin
Morning: Visit Trinity University for a campus tour followed by a visit to the Book of Kells exhibit and the Old Library
Afternoon: Free time with La Vida Local suggestions from CISabroad Onsite Program Coordinator
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

Sunday, March 11 – Dublin to Limerick
Day: Travel from Dublin to Limerick with a stop at Cliffs of Moher, check into accommodations in Limerick upon arrival
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Dublin to Limerick via Cliffs of Moher (private coach bus)

Monday, March 12 – Limerick
Day: Visit to the University of Limerick
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

Tuesday, March 13 – Limerick
Day: Visit to the University of Limerick
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Accommodations to visits (public transportation and walking)

Wednesday, March 14 – Limerick with day trip to Cork
Day: Day trip to Cork for a visit to the University of Cork with SLT faculty
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Limerick to Cork round trip (private coach bus)

Thursday, March 15 – Limerick
Day: Day trip to Galway for a visit to the National University of ireland, Galway with SLT faculty
Meals: Breakfast
Transportation: Limerick to Galway round trip (private coach bus)

Friday, March 16 – Limerick to Dublin
Day: Travel back to Dublin with tour of Wicklow mountains en route, check into accommodations once back in Dublin
Evening: Farewell dinner
Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Transportation: Limerick to Dublin (private coach bus), accommodations to dinner (public transportation and walking)

Saturday, March 17 – Departure day
Morning: Transfer to Dublin Airport for departure flight back to the U.S.
Meals: Breakfast
